  2. Steve Wagner says:

    The wives all look Thurberesque.

    • Paul Wilson says:

Segar chose to draw that way.

Thurber drew that way, due to increasing eye problems stemming from a childhood accident. They eventually made him totally blind.

  3. TFHackett says:

Where are the wives with the frying pans?

  4. Paul Wilson says:

Segar was one of the Greats. When he died, his strip lost direction and purpose with a succession of second-raters like SaggyDrawers Sagendorf. Under Bobby London, it finally went too far,(he was fired) and is now just reprints in a few papers.

    • TonyMillion says:

Wilson, you’re full of shit. Bobby London did a great Popeye, he was fired because of a thinly-veiled abortion joke. You idiot.

      • Darren says:

Bobby London… LOVED Dirty Duck in the National Lampoon glory days of the 70′s.

      • Paul Wilson says:

Bobby London’s work on National Lampoon (now defunct) was rather anti-establishment and like robert Crumb. S.Clay Wilson, Moscosco, et al. He was NOT the right choice for a mainstream strip.

        • TonyMillion says:

I know Bobby London, he’s one of these cartoonists who does real art and experimentation. I’m not sure if Popeye was a lark for him, a job, or what. He told me once, but I was drunk, so I forget. I really like him and his work, too.

    • TonyMillion says:

This is not just random nastiness, Paul Wilson has a long history of being a shitbird of the highest order. His opinions on cartoonists are flip-floppy and stupid.

    • TonyMillion says:

Fuck you, Wilson! Everybody pig-pile on Wilson, please. He took a dump on Kaz and me in one swipe three years ago. Fuck-ball…
