    Well, that’s ruined everything.

  2. Ryan says:

Ah man. . . this is sad news indeed.

  3. matt says:

    a sad day…i need a drink.

  4. ……thanks for cranking out one of the funniest and well drawn strips in the history of comics.

  5. Eric says:

Thank you, Tony, for all your efforts here on this strip. You will be missed.

  6. Luke says:

    DON’T DO IT!

  7. Ihmini says:

Are you pulling my leg? If not, I might have to shed a tear.

  8. wiremesa says:

Thank you for all the years of brilliant Maakies, Tony. I’ll be looking forward to whatever else you’re working on. My one request: please launch a national chain of bar & grills called Drinky Crow. Thanks in advance!

  9. JPDoucet says:

This is a most disturbing development!

Of course weèd all like to know WHYÉ. (damned French keyboard…) Perhaps it is none of our business to know. Perhaps we have not been giving you enough business to make it worthwhile.

Maybe “THEY” got to you (in which case we should stop asking questions … sinister music plays in background)

    • TonyMillion says:

      They didn’t get to me.

      • Jpdoucet says:

Woohoo, I thought it was a put-on because it came out of nowhere with no explanation. Of course on the other hand maybe your liver gave out and you had to rap things up quickly. Please take care of your liver, etc, etc.

In the future if retirement is necessary, I hope for a more dramatic ending for Maakies, perhaps where vile Righteous authority hypocrites, churchmen, moralists, conservatives, etc. launch a naval attack on the Maak. Hopelessly overpowered, the surviving crewmembers Drinky Crow and Uncle Gabby, trick the zealots into sailing off The Edge Of The World in a desparate gamble. Unfortunately they sail too close to The Edge themselves and plunge to their ultimate doom…

Their Epitaph would then read on tattoos or cryin towels everywhere:
“They Died So That You Might Sin.”

Keep up the good work! and Thank You!

  10. Kevin says:

Thanks for the past strips, though. I’ve loved them all.

  11. JPDoucet says:

Wait in the nuke dog comments Tony blames the damned computers.

Obviously it is time for the techogeeks to step up and aid Him so that we may all avoid Maakies withdrawal symptoms.

  12. gruff says:

Brilliant strip man. Sad to see it go. Get us the Complete Collection a little faster than Schulz did please.

  13. Scott says:

Guess I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue…

If this is true, and I hope it is not, I thank you, sir, for all the years of booze laden antics. And poop jokes.

  14. luckydog says:

The Ryan photo and now this! The horror of being alive is now more horrible.

  15. abluesguy says:

No, please SAY IT AIN”T SO!

  20. Tom Swirly says:

    Say it ain’t so, To!

Better to get out while you’re still funny, I suppose, but I want it ALL…

Huge best wishes to you for years of, er, er, exceptional whatever-it-was. (Laughs? Freaks? Mind-openingness?)

  21. o0o says:

this must be a cruel joke!

  22. Robert says:

The only thing I looked forward to every week, and the only consistently good comic on the Portland Mercury’s comic page.

    This is very depressing!

  23. Goofy Gorilla says:

Aw man couldn’t you have announced like a final season of Maakies so we could be ready

  24. c says:

I knew this would happen in the year 2012. They Mayans predicted it centuries ago. Cue the tsunamis and volcanoes. It’s over!

  25. Bicoid Babe says:

Checking your site for new comics every Tuesday was a bit of a tradition for me. I first discovered your comic in the Chicago Reader when I was in college and was hooked ever since. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

  26. buzz says:

Sad, sad news. I love your work, both the Sock Monkey and Maakies stories. God speed & God bless

  27. AA says:

Oh, dear, it was jolly good till it lasted. Farewell!

  28. Andrew says:

So sad to see Maakies go. I would not be who I am today if I had no discovered this amazing comic (That may not be a good thing). Thank you for so many years of awesome comics!

  29. Steve says:

    Congratulations. Now what?

  30. Brandt says:

You da man, Tony! “No, you da man!” No, You da man!
Auld lang, you freak of nature!

  31. Cubelodyte says:

This is a stone cold bummer. What’s the deal? I’m going to miss Maakies, sure as I’m a drunkard.

  32. Alex says:

    But what happened???

  33. Corby says:

When something incredibly wonderful like this happens to Drinky and Gabby, it suggests to me this probably isn’t a joke. It’s Serious. Still, if you keep putting out books, I’ll grab ‘em up. See you at the home, Millionaire. Save me a chair by the fridge.

  34. Sam says:

Sad! I have enjoyed Maakies for many years.

  35. Random Interloper says:

Been reading your strip since the 1990s. Thanks for all the laughs. Hope you come up with something new that you want to share.

  36. Tommy says:

    It’s been wonderful.

  37. Ebo says:

Sorry to see you go. Best of luck with whatever the future holds for you. Thanks for all this fun all these years.

  38. Derek Schoonover says:

It’s funny, I had picked up Maakies several years ago and didn’t really “get it” beyond the absolutely gorgeous art. I went through some hard times since then and just last week I happened upon a Makkies collection at the library. I saw it with new eyes. I devoured Makkies. I am feverishly working to procure all of your output that is available to the public. This strip has changed my ideas of cartooning and comedy. Along with The Sugar Frosted Nutsack by Mark Leyner, Maakies has made this a very good literary year for me. Sorry to ramble. I appreciate the work you’ve done. And I wish you luck with any future endeavors.

es war doch völlig klar ein Witz. im Alkoholiker heim trinkt er schultscheiss und spritzt maakies Vögel strips für immer. aber vielleicht waren die Bestürzung auch nur Witz?

  40. TonyMillion says:

    Inky Crow

  41. Pingback: Maakies didn’t end

  42. Swordfish F. says:

I received this set as a gift for someone else & ended up
keeping it myself because I didn’t want to part with it!
Really nice little set of books, it’s so much easier to have
everything neatly compiled like this. I’m looking forward
to getting the rest of the set.
