You idiot! I’ve always said, (since 2008) “All you need is to invent the perfect drill!” It’s geo-thermal, baby, no coal no oil! The world is saved!

I’m not being cynical! I’ve always said, the energy problem will be solved when somebody develops the perfect drill. It’s hot down there!

Geothermal plants like this have been around for a long time. The breakthrough that is being touted in the article is the use of liquefied carbon dioxide in place of the water that is normally used. The use of water is criticized because these plants use a LOT of it and fresh water is quickly becoming an even more valuable and scarce natural resource than oil. The carbon dioxide would have to be extracted from the air. This takes energy. The carbon dioxide would then have to be pressurized and liquefied. This also takes a lot of energy. This calls into question the efficiency of the whole operation. I won’t even go into the potential dangers such a plant might pose to any surrounding communities.
The carbon dioxide would have to be extracted from the air. Global warming is mainly the result of CO2 levels rising in the Earth’s atmosphere.
Get some geniuses to make some tweaks and the world is saved. It’s basic science!
