Yes, it was the infamous La Belle discothèque bombing in Berlin 1986. President Reagan saw my horrified expression on the cover of the Washington Post and in his raging empathy for me he organized the attacks on Libya which killed Colonel Gaddafi’s adopted 6-month old daughter, Hanna! I was saddened to be mixed up in this tragic squabble.
HOWEVER, my good friend TODD ALCOTT recently sent me this article which ABSOLVES ME from some of my guilt a little!

SHE’S ALIVE!!!

Hooray!
You can’t make this stuff up!
Or, can you?
My true stories are 100% true.
So, was it you on that grassy knoll?
No, I was in Massachusetts.
There’s nothing like assurances from Swiss Intelligence that both the CIA and Islamic terrorists have competing and equally compelling/doubtful spins on real and/or imagined events- like a swig of Applejack and a Tylenol, I know I sleep better knowing what’s what-
Tony are you for fucking serious. Did you really photobomb/troll the global news in regards to a major terrorist attack? If true that is pretty badass.
I dug up the image on the AP Image website btw. Please tell me you ain’t lyin.

Yes, I was coming home from a party in Berlin with a carload of friends. It was completely accidental. I guess by the time the reporters got there, I was the best thing to photograph. I remember picking up a giant piece of plaster and screaming “She’s under there! SALLY!!” The Berliner Morgenpost wrote, “His wife Sally danced, as the bomb detonated.” I don’t know how they got my name as “Serviceman Anthony Richardson.”
Hey that link doesn’t work unless I sign up. Can you post the photo? I’d love to get an image of the Washington Post from that day. Weird thing is, they airbrushed my nose in the Boston Herald to make me look prettier.
That’s one hell of a jig you’re doing in that pic.
I was desperate. Or as the Berliner Morgenpost wrote, “verzweifelt.”
We still hold you responsible for Chernobyl, The Gulf War, and the death of Natalie Wood.
It’s a small and crazy place this earth!
Holy crap. That is one helluva story…
What is really appalling in this episode is how lax the newspapers were at verifying the facts of this incident. I can only wonder at how much of what we see in the `news` media is simply not so. . .
keep on truckin`
I’ve been in the newspaper many times. Don’t believe what you read! They get it wrong.
